Iditarod 2008

Iditarod 2008 is going on right now. I am having a great time following it on the web. I make sure to check it every day while it is going on. I met one of the mushers, Jeff King, at the opening of the new Cabella's in East Hartford, CT. It was fun. He was very nice. He told us about a book he wrote that was coming out in March. I preordered it and it came before the Iditarod started. I read it. It is very interesting. You can even feel the cold as he describes his experiences on the trail. A very good book. He is in 2nd place right now

Long Time No Post

My Little Buddy Jed Ted the guinea pig went over rainbowsbridge in August. It was very sad. He would not eat his carrots, his favorite snack. It turned out he had cervical lymphadenitis (absesses in the neck area.) Surgery was needed to correct this problem. The vet said that she usually saw maybe one or two, Jed had seven. He was under anesthesia for two hours. That is a lot for a little guy like that. He never woke up. Poor little guy. I hope he is happy running through fields and eating carrots at Rainbowsbridge. Here is his website:

Iditarod 2007

The Iditarod started on Saturday, March 3, 2007. I am having a great time following it by going to the website everyday. It is fun to see who is ahead and to look at the map to see where on the trail the people are. Visit the Iditarod website at http://www.iditarod.com. Enjoy

Hinsdale Trip failed

My sister and I love to go to Hinsdale and watch the greyhounds race. We do not bet much but it is fun just to sit and watch. It is also fun to watch the other people get mad when the lose. When I see that I think that I am glad that it is not me.

We tried to go up there today and got caught in a big traffic jam. We decided to forget it and got off at Northhampton and came back home. We were looking forward to it but it is not worth it if it takes hours to get there. With no traffic jams we get there in about an hour.

Disappointing but I think it was a smart move to come back home.

Baby Guinea Pigs

I was at a pet supply store on Sunday buying supplies for Jed. There were two baby guinea pigs. I never saw them so small before. They were about the size of a hamster, although maybe a little rounder. They were so cute all curled up in a little bowl resting. I wanted to take one home. I heard that they are born being able to do everything. They can eat and walk around right away, unlike other creatures that come in to the world completly helpless. I have to say that they really did look like an adult guinea pig only smaller. They had fur also. They were both brown and white. They were just so cute.

Knitting with Falkland Island Yarn

I finished my first hat made with the yarn I bought from the Falkland Islands. It is wool yarn made with the wool they sheer from the sheep that are raised at the Dunnose Head Farm. This is their website: www.falklandwool.com. The farm does not sell the yarn themselves but there is a store that sells it. You can get to the website for the store from their website or you can also e-mail them and they can direct you to the website for the store. It is very nice yarn. They do not use any dyes and so the color of the yarn is the color of the sheep it came from. Pretty cool. It is so nice to knit with.

I am now beginning a second hat with the other color yarn I bought from them. One color is kind of gray and the other is a dark brown. They are both very nice.
